Windows 10 Build 10049 First Look (Known Issues and What’s New)

windows-10_wpHeader Super late to the game, but I needed to share this out to you guys. I finally updated my Windows 10 VM to the latest build, which is build 10049 and so far here are the following known issues on the build: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_TX6LqwN0qE

  1. After logging in, you may see a blue screen instead of your desktop. To work around this issue, lock your PC (with the hardware button or by pressing the Windows Key + L) and try logging in again. You can also try Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
  2. Indexing of new email in Outlook is not working, so search results will be limited to when the last index was built.
  3. If you have Virtual Machines hosted on your PC running Windows 10, you will want to move to the Slow ring and wait for the next build as this build breaks the ability to run VMs.
  4. There are 2 issues using Visual Studio 2015 preview on this build:
    1. The emulators will not boot and you won’t be able to deploy a Windows Universal app to the Mobile emulator.
    2. The XAML designer in VS and Blend will crash when opened.
    3. If you are a developer using these tools today to develop Windows Universal apps and need this functionality to work [Note: recommended switching to the Slow ring until we release a patch to fix these issues]

Now, the build download takes forever. I started the build download around 2PM and by the next day it was ready for me to log into and take a look at. Here are some of things that I noticed off the bat:

The log in screen is changed giving you an overview at the bottom at the screen displaying who has access to the computer:

The privacy eyeball was redesigned:

The “Welcome to OneDrive” dialog box will startup and continue to show if you don’t set it up:

Fonts and Icons looks sharp and clean on this build:

On this build, we get to play around with Project Spartan. It would make sense if you do the testing on a tablet to take full advantage of all the features that Spartan provides:

So far, Windows 10 Build 10049 feels and looks good, but I need to continue to play around with it to see how stable it really is. Stay tune for a hands on video review BTNHD

  1. can one choose what updates to do, on update center like windows 7?

    • nope, i think with the preview builds Microsoft going to be pushing out all the updates with no way to choose. hopefully, when it’s made public we are able to pick which updates get pushed out to the machine.
