Virtualizing things make life easy when you're learning about technology. Especially, if you are planning to implement something at a job site, but you don't have the physical hardware to do the testing. I had a client that wanted Windows Server 2012 Datacenter installed and configured with Hyper-v. I fired up my virtual infrastructure to create a virtual machine - booted into Windows Server 2012 Datacenter and started to install the Operating System. Once the OS was completed I started to configure and push out updates and then went into Role and Feature to start the Hyper-v installation, but received the following error:

I think you actually only require the second two lines. That is all I’ve added to my guests and got it working. I’ve had *very* bad luck editing the VMX directly, but they can be added via the advanced properties of the VM in the vSphere client. I’ve had a few Hyper-V guests running on my vSphere/vCenter 5.5 host for 70-410 practice labs.

By the way, you could also install VMware VSphere using the same trick
It only takes these three lines to be added in the VMX file:
mce.enable = “TRUE”
hypervisor.cpuid.v0 = “FALSE”
vhv.enable = “TRUE”
